Account information: Email address, display name, and password (stored securely hashed).
Family tree data: Names, birth years, birth dates, death years, biographical information, and profile pictures of family members you add.
Relationships: Family connections you define between members.
Recipes: Recipe titles, ingredients, instructions, photos, tags, and family stories you submit.
Usage data: Basic server logs (IP address, request timestamps) for security and debugging.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide and maintain the Service
To authenticate your identity and secure your account
To display your family tree and recipes to authorized family members
To send password reset codes when requested
To improve the Service

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties except:

Within your family group: Family members who join using your invite code can see the shared family tree and recipes.
Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or government request.
Safety: To protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public.

4. Data Storage and Security

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text.
Authentication uses JWT tokens with expiration.
Data is stored in a SQLite database on our servers.
Uploaded photos are stored on the server with randomized filenames.
We use reasonable security measures to protect your data, but no system is 100% secure.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access: View all data associated with your account.
Correct: Update your profile information and family tree data at any time.
Delete: Delete individual family members, recipes, or your entire family. Account deletion removes your data.
Export: Export your family tree as an SVG image.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

We use browser local storage to:

Store your authentication token (so you stay logged in)
Store your display preferences (such as dark mode)

We do not use third-party tracking cookies or analytics services.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your family or account, associated data is permanently removed from our database.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
